Boxing Gyms
Most of the big names in the world of boxing have probably come from the
small boxing gyms that are both featured in reel and real life. These tiny
rooms is where aspiring boxers cramped and trained so hard to become the
next big thing that will ever happen to the sport of boxing.
Undeniably, boxing is the sport for the poor. This observation is a
commonplace in the four corners of the boxing all over the world. It is no
wonder then that the state of boxing gyms is that of poverty stricken
condition. It is believed that the dismal picture of boxing gyms helped
prepares the boxers to be both mentally tougher and physically stronger that
are both deemed important in the tricky and deceiving real world of boxing.
Boxing gym owners don’t earn that much as far as financial aspect is
concerned. Expectedly boxers especially the neophytes could barely earn from
their initial fights. Nonetheless the owners still opens their boxing gym
doors to these boxers with the hope that one of them could make it big, thus
giving them the monetary gain they so long deserve. Owners usually get a
percentage of the prizefight that boxer receive. Likewise having produced a
champion boxer can entice other expert trainers and potential boxers to work
out at the gym, therefore increasing the membership.
Most of the owners and operators of boxing gyms are retired boxers while
others are promoters and managers. Despite the known fact that there is not
much to earn from maintaining a training facility for boxers they still
continue to do so because of the same passion they have for the sport. They
also believe that because they owe much from this sport they want to give
back by simply providing a place where boxers can have access to the
training instructions and facilities and equipment.
Today the picture of the boxing gyms is slowly changing from the poorly lit
and small makeshift gym to the well lit, sprawling and fully equipped
training facility. De la Hoya, the Golden Boy, for instance, has built his
own gym as a training ground for potential world champs. He gets the
opportunity to manage and promote other up and coming boxers who can be
potential endorsers of the gym. Most of all they can help in earning a
considerable profit or at last in breaking even.
Right now there are more than a hundred boxing gyms located almost every
corner that are training budding boxers to become the next champion. Both
men and women boxers have made these gyms as their second home. Others gyms
are also catering to health conscious individuals who just want to workout
for a couple of minutes.
